Well, world! Here he is. Our perfect little hunk of handsome.

baby announcementRhys Alexander Murray joined the world a couple of days ago on Saturday 10th December, weighing in at a whopping 9lb 3oz and 54cm “tall,” with the calmest, sweetest little soul we could ever have dreamed of!

RhysAfter baking for a full 41 weeks and 5 days, we chose to give him a nudge out of his VERY cozy tummy (seriously, you should have seen my belly by the end!) We checked in to the hospital on Friday morning, followed by quite the marathon labour that found us electing to help him out, via caesarean, mid-morning on the most beautiful, snowy Saturday. Nope, not nearly the plan, but the most positive, wonderful experience in every other way.

I personally don’t think it’s mentioned enough how incredible midwives, doctors and nurses are as humans! Our wonderful midwife Kathy (and her 7 month baby bump) held me steady for a long 24 hour process, before the lovely Deborah stepped in with some renewed energy and clarity that we all needed. I also cannot speak highly enough of the hospital staff at Oakville Trafalgar. I will most likely blog my full(ish) birth story at some point but for now, all i can say is that I firmly believe that the compliment of staff who helped me bring our baby earth-side could not have been better suited to help me face some of my biggest fears head on, make a few of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make and celebrate with us as our little guy squealed his way into the world and firmly planted himself deep into our hearts.

We spent the weekend in hospital together, freaking out a little, getting our guy over some jaundice and setting me on the healing path with the help of some of the most phenomenal nurses ever. I wanted to pack Jan and Jane right into our diaper bag to keep forever!! But on Monday they gave us the all clear, patted us on the backs and sent us on our way! So off we headed, home to cuddle on the couch as a family of three… a feeling I’m pretty sure will be etched into my memory for the rest of time (although I’m still amazed they just let you wander out the hospital with your teeeny tiny human without making sure you know what you’re doing…quick tip: you don’t!!)

rhys funnyWe have spent the last 9 days figuring out our very own tiny human, re-arranging our terribly dis-functional (although beautiful) nursery, totally winging 1.5 hour sleep/feed/change increments of life and taking far too many photos (this poor kid!) I’m nervous to admit this out loud, but so far, our little man has been SO good to his healing mamma and tired daddy and we’ve had my mom here helping in ways I can’t imagine living without during this time.

SO incredibly thankful/ hormonal/emotional/overwhelmed and just ridiculously in love with this season of life so far!

Rhys blueRhys detailsSo yes friends, things are going to be a little quiet over here in the next couple of weeks as we soak up Christmas with my visiting family and ease into the new year and a new season of life with our little. I’m looking forward to sharing some of our adventures with you (there have already been a handful of hilarious poo-splosion episodes but I’ll spare you those details!)

Life in 2017 is going to look a lot different in the best of ways and I’m so excited to watch my business baby grow along side our brand new, real life one!

Thank you so much for all the love and support that has swirled around us. Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it!
